Making it...

You know you've made it as a niche group in our society when you get identified as a potential target market.

The trick to finding peace in hyper-capitalism is to be able to isolate oneself from its influence while enjoying the gifts it provides. If too many people were able to do that the system would collapse, which speaks volumes about the difficulty to extricate oneself from its fold.

Ok, simple solution: if you don't agree with homosexuality, don't watch the network. Simple. Easy. And you don't make an ass of yourself.

Really... just block the channel if you don't want to watch (or have your kids watch). They have the right to broadcast, you have the right to block. That's freedom of choice.

i don't have a problem with homosexuality. i also don't care if they have one or ten "gay" channels on tv. i may even watch.

generally speaking i am a big proponent of libertarianism - do whatever you please as long as you don't seriously infringe upon others.

this post had more to do with capitalism and how it interacts with our culture. once an idea/group gets picked up by the capitalist machine it's been brought into the fold. cheapened (through homogenization), but accepted.

it's not a bad tradeoff and the process isn't inherently bad. it is all about freedom - to create, market and consume. and if in the process there's a little more understanding and acceptance i'm all for that.

i do think though that we should be cognizant and somewhat wary of our societal and cultural involvement with capitalism. it is a double-edged sword - it gives us freedom and then tries to suck our souls away.

I guess I just get riled up when people attack others for no good reason.

i'm almost considering turning on the goddamnoisybox just to see if we get that channel. somebody was saying they changed the lineup a couple of weeks ago.

i think that if there's an alternatives-to-hetero channel, though, ... there's nothing those right-wing conspiracists can do about it, we're chugging slowly towards acceptance, and the existence of the channel is both a sign of that and will help it on the way. after The L Word it was only a matter of time. i hope.

Oo, drat, I thought I was being peaceful. I'll go stew over it at my own blog, which isn't nearly as zen-like :)

*lol* hahahaha... nah... you're fine. zen is cool, but nothing like a good conflicting opinion to shake things up. :)
