This is kinda like saying: "Good luck and here's a little something for the road." OK, I guess it would be more in the line of, "Well, you know they're going to do it so you might as well give them condoms."

At first I thought: about time someone started treating immigrants like human beings! "Them" was used in interesting ways in the article. Then I got to the last paragraph about Mexico's revenue, and the project didn't seem nearly so humanitarian.

true. i actually read a great article in harpers (*chuckle*) recently that was talking about people becoming the main export of poorer countries due to remittances they send home. however the authors really focused on how it's a very short term, narrow minded approach as you're usually exporting your best and brightest which could do a lot more for your own economy if you only gave them the opportunity.
