Bravo!

Mexico is close to signing in a new law that would decriminilize posession of most drugs for personal use! Bravo!!

What will they do with repeat offenders? And is it only legal to "possess"?

hahaha... i figured canada was more likely to do it first! ;)

yes, only possession of small quantities for personal use would be legal. repeat? no such thing considering it would be legal.

the us would be wise to follow (though it ain't gonna happen anytime soon) - the number of people rotting in prisons for marijuana usage is appaling!

    possession: legal.

    what about selling?

it's a little hard to own any if it's still illegal to sell.

yes, i wholeheartedly agree. but one step at a time and this is a huge step. if possession becomes legal and then 10-20 years from now it becomes clear that there are no major adverse affects on society the argument to completely legalize them becomes stronger.

even though it is ridiculous to legalize possession without legalizing production and distribution, it is a small step towards a greater goal. in that context i think it makes sense.

that's what I was getting at... Seems stupid to say "yes you can carry it, but you cannot sell it, distribute it, use it..."

I could support the legalization of marijuana... not the other drugs though. I just can't in good conscience say they are okay (based on my own experiences).

that's fair. that opinion is shared by most people.

i just think that the gov't has no business controlling people's personal choices. and this argument extends to safety belts, helmets, euthanasia, abortion, etc. they can educate as much as they want (it worked wonder with cigs), but they shouldn't legislate.

It reminds me a bit of the Netherlands, where it's legal to smoke it and sell it, but not to grow it. Amusing...
