Give peace a chance, for crying out loud!
Arafat dies, the Palestinians conduct a democratic election and choose Abbas, a moderate leader supported by most of the world. Hamas states they're open to a truce (1) and the PLO declares that hostilities should end (2). Sounds like progress, right?
Some Palestinians extremists attack Isrealis and all of a sudden Isreal declares that Abbas is not doing enough to stop the attacks and first they cut contacts with the Palestinian Authority (3) and then proceed to conduct military operations (of the "do whatever is needed" type) to stop further attacks (4).
THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS!!! If Israel was truly committed to peace it would take a few hits and give Abbas support and some time to reign in the militants. Israelis have been dying for years now and military operations have not stopped the violence. GIVE PEACE A CHANCE, for crying out loud!!!

Doesn't it just give you a warm fuzzy feeling to know that the US has set the precedent for such lovely actions?

Well, gees, didn't you know that you're only given a leeway of a few days after assuming office to get all the extremists under control? I mean really... everyone knows that (yeah... that's sarcasm). I agree with you Z. Abbas needs more time to figure out a plan to lessen the attacks by the extremists, and Israel is way too used to getting it's way (which I think can easily be blamed on the preferential treatment from the US).

Sam, I find you and I are once again in agreement. I feel for Israel's plight but there are two sides to every story, and there needs to be definite compromise from both parties. No group of people, regardless of their history, deserves preferential treatment in times like these, IMO, uninformed as it is.

dude, "take a few hits?" no freakin' way.
Not that the response was necessarilly, um, measured. But still. If palestinians are still killing israelis they're the ones not giving peace a chance.
Oooooh i hate war.
