"Panel Recommends Major Tax Law Overhaul"

I have not read the details of the plan yet, but overall a change would not be bad. The current tax system has gotten so complicated after years of tinkering that it would be a good thing to revamp it. Make it so one does not need to spend hours trying to understand what they can and cannot claim. Make it simpler and more just. A change would be good.

If you're curious about their recommendations here is a link:

I'm not a fan of Nancy Pelosi. She keeps saying the "this administration is all about tax breaks for the wealthy and burdens for the middle class" but I have yet to see her support that statement. Saying something many times does not make it true, Nancy.

true, true. she's being a good democrat and yelping at everything bush offers. not very productive, but then again it is politics.

it would be interesting to do some case studies on real people's tax returns and see how some "generic representatives" of upper, middle and lower classes would fare with this new proposal. i think this kind of an evaluation should be a prerequisite before this debate goes any further. it would provide valuable feedback either way that would either silence the critics or scrap the proposal. i'd like to see a politician ask for a case study before they dump on a new idea.

    a "good democrat" indeed.

I agree. however, the time it would take to design said case study, do it, and analyze the results would be unacceptable to congress...

i don't see what's the big rush. the current tax code is not ideal, but it works. we should have all the time in the world to ensure that any changes are done right.

there isn't a rush. but go ahead and tell that to these people. they love beauracracy and stalling, but simultaneously want their objectives put in place ASAP.

Time magazine does little case studies on tax changes all the time, they're not too difficult to do really.

oh well... it seems to me with democracy you gotta take the good with the bad.

life would be pretty boring if we weren't arguing over taxes. I mean, really... boring. :)
