Capitalism reaches its ugly hand into art
A 3-minute skit at the beginning of a play promoting London as a tourist destination has been done in Dublin, Hamburg and now NYC and shortly in Pittsburgh. What a shame!
Having recently witnessed 15-20 minutes of commercials in a Santa Cruz movie theater I must say that this is a disturbing trend. Is nothing sacred? Will no venue be left alone?
What's next? Will paintings start carrying a little corporate logo in the corner to remind everyone that art is dead. Just like TV and films (and recently video games) it has been replaced with lots of light fluff interspersed among commercials.

I hate seeing those commercials before the previews... I'd rather have a blank screen with background music. Or how about those cartoons they used to play in the "old days"? I wouldn't mind some cartoons. Adults like cartoons too.

*lol* i could already see a WOW ad: "Tired of all the blood and bile stains on your clothes? Tide! When nothing else will do"
Ahhh, the innocent old days. Yes, nothing is sacred anymore. If there is a blank spot somewhere or a place where you're helplessly stuck - you can be sure ads and commercials are certain to be there as well.

The good old days, huh? Take a look at the advertising exhibits in the library of congress. Interesting to say the least.

oh, don't get me wrong - i don't have oldies nostalgia. i like living in our present times. i guess it's a package deal, but that still doesn't mean i'm not gonna bitch about some annoying things. :)
and in terms of advertising - yes, you could pretty much say anything in those days and get away with it. but at least it wasn't EVERYWHERE and it was more straightforward. the psych crap they pull these days is just plain annoying - one has to always be on the guard.
